Everyone is celebrating and discussing Mawlid in his own style and tradition as its the celebration which has also been celebrated by Angels and rest of the Prophets (Alayhumus Salam).
Milad was always there, today may be the way we celebrate is different but the message is the same that is to spread the teachings of Quran and Sunnah. In the days of the Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi Sallam) and Sahaba Kiraam (RA) every day was like celebrating Mehfil-e-Milad (Quran and Sunnah Mehfil). Here, RasoolAllah (Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi Sallam) celebrating it every week but people are complaining about recursive celebrations every year. Meelad celebration is not compulsory but Mustahab (recommended). The celebration is not as same as they had in RasoolAllah (Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi Sallam)'s apparent life. However, there are several things in our religion which got added afterwards like Taraaweeh with Jamaat, Compilation of Quran, Adding first call to prayer on Friday, Principal of Hadith, Fiqah, Extende Mosques in Haramain Shareefain e.t.c RasoolAllah (Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi Sallam) said: "He who inaugurates a good practice (sanna fil-islam sunnat-un-hasana) in Islam earns the reward of it, and of all who perform it after him, without diminishing their own rewards". Great Scholars and Mujtahideen provided reasons of these celebration from different Ahadith and Quranic verses. Allah Subhanuhu wa Taala said in Surah Yunus (Verse 58) "Of the favor and mercy of Allah let them rejoice" And also said WAMA ARSALNAAKA ILLA REHMAT ALLIL AALAMEEN "We did not send you except as a mercy to human beings" RasoolAllah (Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi Sallam) was sent as a mercy to all mankind, it is incumbent not only upon Muslims, but upon all human beings to rejoice in his person. Unfortunately, today it is some Muslims who are foremost in rejecting Allah's order to rejoice in His Prophet. RasoolAllah (Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi Sallam) always made the connection between religious events and historical events, so that when the time returned for a significant event, he reminded his Sahaba to celebrate that day and to emphasize it, even if it had happened in the distant past. This principle can be found in the following hadith of Bukhari and others: "When the Prophet reached Madina, he saw the Jews fasting on the day of `Ashura'. He asked about that day and they told him that on that day, Allah saved their Prophet, Sayyidina Musa and drowned their enemy. Therefore they are fasting on that day to thank Allah for that favor." At that time the Prophet responded with the famous hadith, "We have more right to Musa than you," and he used to fast that day and the day preceding it" Sheikh of Islam and hadith master of his age, Imam Ahmed Bin Hajar ASQALANI presented that Hadith for the permissibility of Mawlid. Imam JalaludDeen Suyooti (RA) famous Imam of 15th century said "It is Mustahab for us to celebrate Meelad of the Rasulallah (Sallallahu alaihi wa alihi Sallam) as to thank Allah. (Ruhul Bayaan) ". Some other famous Imam and Scholars of early Islamic age who wrote books and comments about Mawlid celebrations are given: Imam Shawkani (RA) in his book Al-Badr at-tali, said, "It is permissible to celebrate the Prophet's birthday." Mullah Ali Qari held the same opinion in a book entitled Al- Mawrid ar-Rawi fi al-Mawlid al-Nabawi, written specifically to support the celebration of the Prophet's birthday. Imam Subki said, "When we were celebrating the Prophet's birthday, a great uns (familiarity) comes to our hearts, and we feel something special." Imam Abu Shama(RA), said in his book on innovations entitled: al-Baith ala Inkar al-bida wa al- hawadith: "The best innovation in our day is the remembrance of the Prophet's birthday. On that day, people give much donations, make much worship, show much love to the Prophet, and give much thanks to Allah Almighty for sending them His messenger to keep them on the Sunnah and Sharia of Islam." This is an accepted principle of Shariah that the Performance of something is proof of Jawaaz (permissibility), and not doing it is NOT the proof of its prohibition.
